Remder Hoekstra - Zodiac

The Zodiac collection with constellations by artist Redmer Hoekstra, you immediately recognize by their humorous and daydreamy illustrations. Especially for Heinen Delfts Blauw, the Dutch illustrator created a colorful parade of surrealistic zodiac figures that now shine on mugs, candle holders and Christmas baubles. Ideal gifts to surprise someone else with, or decorative products to keep for yourself.

Collaborating with famous artists

Redmer Hoekstra is a visual artist and illustrator. For Heinen Delfts Blauw he designs and draws beautiful illustrations in which animals with human traits play the leading role. His creations stem from a philosophical view of the world. "I like to make people think. I find amazement to be one of the most beautiful human traits," Redmer Hoekstra says of his collection for Heinen Delfts Blauw. "With my drawings I hope to touch the inner child of the viewer." This way of thinking served him well at the CABK / ArtEZ art academy in Zwolle. Redmer graduated in 2009 and has been working as a professional artist ever since. Heinen Delfts Blauw regularly collaborates with well-known designers or artists to create innovative Delftware collections, ensuring that this special craft is also passed on to future generations.

Collection for personal gifts

Especially for the Zodiac collection, the creative illustrator delved into the world of the constellations. He depicted the special characteristics that characterize the various astrological signs in a playful but striking way. The result is a decorative collection full of new, heartwarming characters and products. The collection consists of twelve mugs with a gold handle, twelve candle holders including a candle and twelve ceramic Christmas baubles. By featuring the same images on three different products, the products reinforce each other. This also makes it easy to put together gift sets per constellation, which can be used to supply the entire market.

Expansion of a successful collection

In addition to the new Zodiac collection, there will also be an expansion of Redmer Hoekstra's already existing collection of porcelain wall plates. Three new wall plates will be added to the existing series of five wall plates. These three new wall plates also contain drawings in which animals play the leading role. "I like to put little stories in the drawings. The theme of physical discomfort often appears in them, which is a source for much of my humor," Redmer explains. "In the drawings for Heinen Delfts Blauw, I especially saw the challenge of bringing my world and that of Heinen Delfts Blauw together. I therefore used many Delft blue elements as starting points for the illustrations and built my world around them. Recognizable shapes like the tulip vase or crockery gave me a lot of inspiration especially. I want to make all the drawings different and yet have all the protagonists live in the same world. That way they shine on their own, but also combine well with each other."
