Description

A colorful milk churn vase with traditional Dutch colors and patterns made of ceramic. The milk churn vase was designed by artist Pepijn van den Nieuwendijk for Heinen Delfts Blauw and is based on the distinctive traditional costumes of the many regions in the Netherlands. Traditional costumes were not only decorative, but also formed an important part of a community's identity. The fabrics, patterns, hats, and jewelry revealed where someone came from, their status, and even whether they were married or in mourning. The red rose was an important symbol of marriage. The bride wore traditional costume with a bodice made of iridescent silk embroidered with seven roses. Six is the number of imperfection, eight stands for perfection and is reserved for God. Seven symbolizes the fullness that is achievable for humans: happiness, hope, and love.
